Once upon a time I was the tiny skinny kid and was embarrassed to be so skinny. I got older and played sports but was embarrassed to not be as fast or strong as the other girls. In college I got some curves and then some more ‘curves’ when I started working full time and was embarrassed to not be thinner. Honestly – it’s a lose-lose for most of us girls.
Worked on the Disney album a bit more this week! I took all of my printed photos (that I organized here) and sorted them into their proper organization & started populating my album with “stuff”. I had some help taking photos for you…. I cannot wait to finish this album for him! His interest in everything we did a year ago is awesome and I want to finish it for him so he can hang onto all of his wonderful memories (that we all know are so fleeting at his age). He of course still had jammies & bedhead when I was taking the pictures – but that’s real life on a weekend!
A bit about me – I am a believer in eating clean, whole foods etc. (doesn’t mean I do it), but I am not a hard core crunchy mama. I don’t do organic, I use regular detergent & (until recently-that’s another story) cleaning products, I didn’t know what an amber necklace was until a week ago & I doubt I would know one if I saw one!
For you crunchy mamas out there – good for you! I just don’t have the energy because it’s not my thing that I am passionate about (how would I find time to scrapbook or quilt).
Well, it has been a while – and I am sorry! I made quite a few things lately – but I may not blog about them yet. I even have a blog post about the Christmas Stockings I made for us this year all written up – I will try to post it closer to when people will be thinking about Christmas projects again!
It has been a year (seriously – how is that possible!) since we went to Disney. I sooo would love to go back – but it wouldn’t be the same – we have our Disney “wish” (aka Sam), Andy is older etc. I have run across pictures of Andy at Disney a few times lately & I am astonished how much he’s grown up since last year! Yes – he’s bigger physically – but he just looks so much more grown up & he’s becoming a boy and less a pre-schooler. I am so glad we went when we did – he hadn’t hit the big whiney stage quite as intensely yet but MOST importantly – he LOVED Mickey with all of his heart & soul! He still likes Mickey & Jake & the other Disney shows, but Star Wars, The Hobbit, superheroes & Wild Kratts (especially those guys) have crept up in importance.
… ok it’s been 2.5 weeks, but I was on top of this picture being 1 week difference! And can I just say WOAH… I know this is supposedly “natural”, but sometimes it just seems so UNnatural!
I had grand plans at the end of 2012 to really do alot of blogging & crafting & sharing of projects in 2013. And then as we were nearing the “throw in the towel” point in having a 2nd kiddo it happened! I would like to say I just went on with doing everything I wanted to, but I didn’t. Now I am nearing the end & reflecting back, wondering what life will be like with 2 kids, what a newborn will do to my daily routines etc. If there was ever a time to start up a new routine – now is it – because a new one will start one way or the other right?
These pictures were taken by the same photographer we have had take all of Andy’s picture to date – Lea Murphy. She does GREAT work & we had so much fun going in for belly pictures – which we didn’t do when I was pregnant with Andy! I have a few more to share at the end of the post. Wishes by kids… sometimes they are cute, sometimes silly, sometimes sad & sometimes they break your heart because you know you just can’t grant it. Andy has started believing in magic in the last year or so. It’s so fun to watch him wave a magic wand & tell me he is making things disappear or fly, etc. He doesn’t often make “wishes”… you know the serious “I wish for …” sentence that doesn’t necessarily involve whatever toy is in front of him at the moment (all kids wish for that). But he’s made a few.
Another preview of a UFO…. an UnFinished Object in quilters terms… Pretty sure we can use the same concept as scrappers!
Ok – time for some non-scrappy/quilty/crafty updates.
I have been working on decorations for Andy’s big-boy Lego room. Picked out some fun Lego guys & I have good traces for my Silhouette to cut out. I have side view of Legos & even a mock-up of one wall. Next up is figuring out what goes where & how big … then cut cut cut!
So…. what have I been up to (beyond ignoring my blog)?
I have been working to finish card table playhouses for a few friends! I am using this pattern (with my own tweaks & changes) from a local designer Shea Henderson aka Empty Bobbin. If you are ever interested in making one of these I will tell you this – I worked my tail off with sales, value cotton, coupons etc. & bought all of the fabric at JoAnn fabric (complete with the requisite 1 hr waiting for your number to be called). I picked up the fabric right before Christmas & spent ~$75/house. So – these things are NOT cheap – so when you see them on etsy for $200-250 and they aren’t felt they are soooo not charging too much (trust me felt/flannel would be a quicker sew job because you don’t have to worry about finishing raw fabric edges). Now – that isn’t to say that you ‘should‘ spend that much money on one – find a friend with a machine & make it yourself!
